APILU facilitates supply of International Criminal Law reading materials to Uganda Christian University
One of APILU’s objectives is to engage law students with the objective of enhancing their awareness of International Law and its application in specific contexts. African Action Network on International Criminal Justice
APILU participated establishing an African Action Network on International Criminal Justice (ICJ) in May 2009. The initiative was a follow-up of an earlier workshop organized by the Institute of Security Studies (ISS) in December 2008 which resolved the establishment of a network of civil society and legal practitioners to promote International Criminal Justice in Africa. UGMP group
APILU
was in August registered as a member of the Uganda Governance Monitoring
Program (UGMP), a platform that brings together key civil society
organizations in Uganda and the Netherlands in a joint governance
monitoring programme to track and Uganda's progress in good governance. Read more

APILU
plans to engage with Law students to promote understanding of Public
International Law, International Criminal Law and Justice, International
Humanitarian Law and the Rule of Law; and encourage debates on its
relevance in the Ugandan context. Read more

Advocates
for International Initiative has opened up a website to sensitize
the public of its activities. The www.apilu.org gives a brief background
of APILU programmes and its activities.The
website also gives a list of publications to guide researchers and
scholars on where to get resources concerning major international
treaties to which Uganda is a party. Read more
Holding perpetrators
of War Crimes accountable can promote peace and reduce future abuses.
On
July 14th 2008, the International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor
requested for an arrest warrant for President Omar Hassan al-Bashir
of Sudan on charges of genocide, crimes against humanity, and war
crimes committed in Darfur.
